Mumbai remains under red alert status by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a day after extremely heavy rainfall brought the financial capital to a standstill. Palghar and Thane are also on red alert today. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today warned of heavy showers in the Greater Mumbai area and also issued a high tide warning. A high tide of 4.19 meters is likely on July 5 and is expected to peak around 3:22 p.m.

Warning of adverse weather conditions, the BMC in a post on X said, “Citizens should remain vigilant and step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary. Apart from this, they should strictly follow the instructions issued by the administration from time to time. In case of emergency, immediately contact the helpline number 1916 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.”

On Saturday, the railway ministry postponed the formal start of tunneling work for the bullet train project in Mumbai amid a red alert from the IMD. “Due to adverse weather conditions, we have decided to postpone the official commencement of underground tunneling work using tunnel boring machines for the first time on the bullet train project by the Hon’ble Railway Minister,” PTI quoted a senior official as saying.

Several key roads were closed to traffic on Saturday due to waterlogging and rain. A Mumbai Traffic Police advisory suggested that traffic has been disrupted at Andheri Subway (DNNagar), Malad Subway South and North Bound, J Tata Road Near Star Bajar (Marine Drive), Cigarette Factory VKC Society Chakala (Sahar), South and North bound towards Rolta Junction (MIDC area), Birsa Munda, South Chowk, Sub Chowk, South Chowk, South Chowk, Subtana Powawa Kurla Depot to Kamani Junction and Chembur SCLR Underpass (Descent), off other routes.

Mumbai trains rescheduled, cancelled

Several Mumbai trains scheduled for 5 July were rescheduled or canceled in view of adverse weather conditions and due to major block.

In a post on X, Central Railway said, “A mega block will be implemented between Kurla and Vashi on both Harbor lines from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM to carry out various engineering and maintenance works in Mumbai Division of Central Railway.”

He added, “During the block period, some suburban services on the Harbor line will remain cancelled. Additionally, special services will be operated between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Kurla and Vashi – Panvel stations. There will be no mega block on the main line.”

According to Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway, CSMT – MAS EXP with train number 22159 has been rescheduled.

CSMT-Pune Deccan Express with train number 11007 has been cancelled, said DRM Mumbai CR.
