Members of Visakhapatnam Residents Welfare Association (VARWA) and District Federation Committee of Greater Visakha Colony Residents Associations (NIVAS) staged a protest at the GVMC Gandhi statue on Tuesday, alleging that the recent decisions of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) increase burden on public bodies and facilitate transfer of property.
Speaking on the occasion, VARWA District President N. Prakasa Rao and NIVAS District Secretary P. Narayana Murthy said that while the people of the city were already facing many civic problems, the decisions taken by the government and GVMC were further worsening the situation. They questioned the rationale for raising taxes and user fees without addressing long-standing civic issues, especially at a time when basic amenities were deteriorating.
