Ricky Ponting was visibly furious when Shashank Singh took the field during Punjab Kings’ win over Lucknow Super Giants in their Indian Premier League 2026 match on Sunday, April 19, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Shashank took two catches and was guilty of a couple of errors in the field, prompting Ponting to vent his frustration from the dugout.

However, once PBKS sealed the win, the mood changed. Ponting was seen hugging Shashank as the Punjab players celebrated, bringing a warm end to an otherwise tense episode.
With the win, Punjab Kings strengthened their grip at the top of the table. They remain unbeaten with five wins from six games, 11 points and a net run of +1.420.
HOW SHASHANK SINGH KILLED
Shashank Singh had a tough day in the field, with some costly errors taking the shine off an otherwise strong Punjab Kings innings. The problem started when he threw away Nicholas Pooran’s high chance, misjudging the ball in the air and only taking a light touch before it hit the ground.
Trouble continued in the 18th over. Shashank again erred and let a catchable ball slip past him for a six off Aiden Markram. The moment clearly frustrated Ricky Ponting in the dugout as the fielder seemed to have lost track of the ball completely.
Things got worse in the penultimate over when Shashank dropped Mukul Choudhary after getting both hands on the ball but not holding on. While captain Shreyas Iyer managed to smile, Ponting’s reaction showed how serious the mistakes were. Despite the win, it was an effort Shashank would like to bounce back from quickly.
However, Shashank played a blistering cameo of 17 off just six balls, hitting a one, a four and a six to help Punjab Kings clear the 250-run mark. Defending 254, PBKS then restricted the Super Giants to 200 for five, continuing their impressive run in the tournament.
