Rinku entered the competition with just 79 runs from six games and was in a bad slump. He came into bat when KKR were 52 for four in their chase of 156, starting to steady the ship alongside Rovman Powell. However, after dismissing West Indiana in the 11th over, the KKR vice-captain experienced a brief lapse in concentration.
He skied the same delivery from Ravindra Jadeja straight to Nandra Burger who dropped it, giving Rink a second chance. He took advantage of the opportunity, scoring 53 runs, 34 balls and an assist KKR secured the win with two balls to spare. Speaking after the match, Rinku openly admitted that he had a moment of mental breakdown during the chase and expressed gratitude for his luck today.
“Yes, sometimes the mind doesn’t work and that’s when you play rash shots. God was with me; the catch was put away and we won the match,” said Rinku.
The KKR vice-captain mentioned his intention to go into the game despite his lack of form. “Sometimes it happens when you don’t get runs, you get a bit frustrated. I spoke to the coaches and other batsmen; we wanted to take the game deep,” said Rinku.
What is Rinku’s best batting spot?
This season, Rinku Singh has mostly batted at No.5, but in the previous match against GT, he batted at No.7. When asked about his ideal role, the KKR vice-captain stated that he is happy to bat anywhere from No. 5 and below.
“I don’t think too much about it. I can bat at any position. Wherever the team wants me to bat, I am ready,” said Rinku.
KKR will face LSG in their next match on April 26.
