The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday (April 17, 2026) ordered the filing of an FIR and further investigation into the alleged British citizenship of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Justice Subhash Vidyarthi, allowed the petition filed by S. Vignesh Shishir. The petitioner sought registration of an FIR against Mr. Gandhi under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Passport Act, the Foreigners Act and the Official Secrets Act, which state that the LoP has British citizenship.
