The Indian Premier League returns to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium this Saturday for an afternoon encounter that looks more like a homecoming than a routine fixture. All eyes will be on KL Rahul, the local favorite and Delhi Capitals batting mainstay, who will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have looked formidable since winning their first title in 2025.
Almost a month into IPL 2026, RCB have developed into one of the most complete units in the competition. They will be keen to build on that reputation against a struggling Delhi Capitals team. Much attention was on Virat Kohli and the batting talisman arrived holding the Orange Cap. Yet this RCB batting line-up no longer revolves around him alone.
GREEN INITIATIVE OF RCB
In a tradition dating back to 2011 Royal Challengers Bengaluru will don their green jerseys for this home appliance as part of their “green initiative”. The move symbolizes the franchise’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Made from recycled materials, the kits highlight RCB’s status as a carbon-neutral T20 franchise, while promoting responsibility and encouraging fans to participate in green efforts.
‘GREEN’ CURSE FOR VIRAT
While the green jersey remains a fan favourite, it hasn’t always brought luck to Virat Kohli. The current Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026 with 228 runs endured mixed returns as RCB moved away from their traditional colours.
Kohli’s most memorable performance in green came in 2016 when he smashed 109 off 55 balls against Gujarat Lions. However, despite solid contributions including 62 in 2025 and 73 in 2014, RCB have often found themselves on the losing side in this set.
With Kohli in strong touch this season, including a recent 49 off 34 as an Impact Substitute, RCB will be hoping to finally banish the so-called ‘green curse’.
RAHUL’S FORTRESS: CHINNASWAMY
KL Rahul has consistently thrived at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, scoring 544 runs in 20 innings at an average of 41.84. His spot bid is 145.45, s the highest score of 93 failed.
His knowledge of the conditions could prove to be Delhi Capitals’ biggest weapon against the home side.
RCB JUGGERNAUT
Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into this clash in strong form having dominated the opposition in the 2026 campaign. Their only stumble came against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
Captain Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Phil Salt and Tim David contributed decisively with an aggressive strokeplay and consistently stepped up at crucial moments. Patidar, in particular, stood out with his remarkable six-hitting spree, leading the charts with 21 maximums from five matches, three more than Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
This collective firepower has allowed Kohli to bat with more freedom, knowing that the responsibility is shared across the line-up.
Apart from this swing, Bengaluru are playing fearless cricket and will look to dismiss Rahul early to prevent him from anchoring the innings.
DC SEARCH STABILITY
In contrast, Delhi Capitals are still looking for stability. Despite boasting experienced names like KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller and Nitish Rana, consistency has eluded them. Even their fifth place with four points is misleading given their performances.
The only bright spot was young Sameer Rizvi, who scored two half-centuries, but the wider batting struggles were evident in the back-to-back defeats. Their two wins this season have come against Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, both of whom have endured tough campaigns themselves.
Captain Axar Patel’s form has also been worrying. He managed just three wickets and recorded just three shots in four games, reflecting a wider drop in all-round impact.
The discrepancy also extends to their bowling. Kuldeep Yadav struggled for rhythm, picking up just three wickets and conceding nearly 10 runs in overs. Pacers Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan have also failed to perform consistently.
RCB TEAM NEWS
RCB’s main fitness concern is Virat Kohli, who injured his ankle against Mumbai Indians. He featured as an impact substitute against Lucknow and can again be used primarily as a batter.
DC TEAM NEWS
Delhi Capitals will be missing Mitchell Starc who is yet to join the team due to workload management by Cricket Australia. Its availability is not yet clear.
RCB VS DC: PITCH REPORT
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for its batting-friendly surface, with matches often producing totals in excess of 200. The pitch offers consistent bounce and carry, favoring an aggressive stroke play.
Conditions are expected to be testing, with temperatures hovering between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius and humidity around 20 percent.
