Seven students of the school were injured after a van overturned into a road canal at Kakkaravila near Neyyattinkara on Friday.

According to the police, the vehicle, which was operating on a contract basis for New Jyothi Public School, was carrying 11 passengers, including nine students, a driver and a chaperone. It is suspected that the vehicle lost control after one of its tires got stuck in the mud on a narrow stretch of road. He then went off the road and overturned into an adjacent canal.

Local residents and officials rushed to the spot and safely evacuated the children before taking them to Neyyattinkara General Hospital.

Official sources said that the injured students are out of danger, most of them only suffering minor injuries. However, two children suffered fractures and remain under treatment, while the others have been released after receiving medical attention. The police registered the case and started an investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident.
