
Priests and devotees mixing turmeric powder with rice to prepare ‘Thalambralu’ at Vontimitta Sri Kodandaramalayam in Kadapa district on Friday. The sacred yellow rice will be used for the ‘Sita Rama Kalyanam’ celestial wedding scheduled on April 1.
As part of the Sri Rama Navami Brahmotsavams, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) formally started the Talambralu packing on Friday (March 27) at the temple for the upcoming Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam scheduled on April 1.
The preparation and packing of the sacred Talambralu pearl, which holds great significance in the divine wedding to be held on April 1, has begun with the participation of Srivari Sevaks (volunteers). The program began with special rituals at the temple, after which the materials were taken in a ceremonial procession to the Pilgrim Amenities Complex near Kalyana Vedika.
On Wednesday, the ritual of grinding turmeric required to prepare Talambral was performed. Talambralu was prepared by mixing rice, turmeric and ghee. Along with this, pearls and sacred threads (Kankanam) which were meant to be tied because wrist bracelets were also part of the sacred gift sets meant to be distributed to the devotees.
About 1.60 lakh such packages are prepared on war footing before the wedding ceremony.
600 Srivari Sevaks from Kadapa and Annamayya districts were roped in to prepare these Talambralu packets.
Meanwhile, the annual Brahmotsavam at Sri Kodandaramalayam formally began with the Dhwajarohanam, hoisting the sacred flag on the temple’s flagpole.
The divine wedding falls in the middle of the nine-day annual festival.
