Nearly 150 people fell ill in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore district after eating a wedding feast, prompting authorities to introduce late-night measures to treat them on Wednesday (March 25, 2026), officials said, adding that all the patients were now stable.
According to officials, more than 1,000 guests attended a wedding ceremony in Babadiya-Noabad village under Ichhawar division, after which some of them started complaining of diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach pain due to suspected food poisoning.
Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM) Swati Mishra told The Hindu that doctors at Ichhawar Civil Hospital alerted the authorities after several patients arrived with similar problems.
“When we enquired, we found that they were all at the same wedding. So we deployed several teams to provide medicines to the patients. Those who had minor problems were given medicines on the spot, while some were admitted to the civil hospital,” she said, adding that three patients were sent to the district hospital in a serious condition but are now out of danger.
Ms. Mishra said food and water samples from the event were taken and sent for testing.
“Any further action will be taken based on the reports. But we have destroyed all the food and materials at the site and buried them so that even animals don’t eat them,” she said.
The SDM also said that the district administration has also sent a team of doctors to Ichhawar and deployed more ambulances to deal with the situation.
“We have also traced the guests who returned earlier in about five to six villages through ANM and ASHA workers and local officials to check if they have any symptoms,” she added.
