In a single day, election officials in Kerala received 4,585 complaints from the public regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the cVIGIL application. Of the 4,528 complaints scrutinized and resolved by Election Commission of India (EC) officials and flying squads, 4,516 were found to be meritorious. Thiruvananthapuram district tops the list in terms of the number of complaints that have been investigated, said Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar, citing data for March 20 (Friday).
According to him, up to 4,402 complaints were adequately resolved within 100 minutes. “The fact that 4,516 complaints were found to be genuine shows the vigilance of the people,” he added. The cVIGIL application is a web-based platform developed by the EC for rapid response to cases of cases reported by citizens.
The cVIGIL app allows members of the public to report election issues related to the distribution of money, alcohol, fake news and unauthorized election materials by uploading photos and video clips.
