A song from the film ‘KD: The Devil’ starring Dhruva Sarja has drawn the ire of women’s rights activists who have urged the state government to ban the song immediately to preserve the dignity of women.
Women’s rights activists and women’s organizations such as the All India Mahila Sanskriti Sanghatan (AIMSS) strongly opposed the “vulgar” lyrics in the song, which they said seeks to “promote a derogatory perception of women”.
Advocate MN Sumana, farmer activist Sunanda Jayaram, women’s rights activists Rekhamba, Lynette Vani Periyodi, Nasreen Mithai and other members of the Karnataka State Federation Against Women’s Atrocities Coordinating Committee opined that the song beginning with the line ‘Sarse Sarse de Ninanna’anna encourages people to look at women.
“Due to the carelessness and irresponsibility of the censor board, such songs are released unchecked,” read a statement released by women activists, who said such shameful content cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Mysuru district committee of AIMSS said the song has “very vulgar lyrics” and portrays women only as “an object of pleasure, a commodity for sale”.
Condemning the censor board’s recklessness in clearing the song for release, the AIMSS Mysuru district committee said releasing the song at a time when crimes against women and children are on the rise “certainly does not bode well”, Asiya, secretary of the Mysuru AIMSS district committee, said in a press statement.
Meanwhile, the Mysuru AIDYO district committee has also demanded an immediate ban on the “vulgar and ambiguous song” in director Prem’s ‘KD: The Devil’.
“AIDYO State Committee demands that all forms of broadcasting of such obscene and ambiguous songs be banned immediately and strict action be taken against those responsible,” AIDSO Mysuru District Committee Secretary Suma said in a statement.
“AIDYO strongly condemns the director Prem and the film team for making such a shoddy song as well as the negligence of the censor board and governments for failing to curb such distortions,” the statement said.
