Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi inaugurated the open air theater at KL Rao Park in Vijayawada’s Chitti Nagar on Tuesday, his last day in office. The term of elected representatives of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) ended on Tuesday and District Collector G. Lakshmisha will take over as special officer on March 18.
Constructed at a cost of ₹17 lakh, the theater will provide a pleasant environment for the public, the mayor said during the occ. She further mentioned that the area which was damaged due to the 2024 flood has been rebuilt along with the footpath at an approximate cost of ₹ 35 lakh as part of the restoration work.
Modernization activities such as the installation of ramps, cladding and the construction of steps have also developed on a larger scale, the mayor said.
She also said that after assuming the office of Mayor on 18 March 2021, she has successfully completed her five-year term on 17 March 2026. Expressing her satisfaction with the development works, Ms. Bhagyalakshmi said she felt happy to attend the inaugural function on the last day of her tenure.
