23 students of an engineering college were injured when a freight train of a private cement plant rammed into a bus at an unmanned private level crossing at Sallipatti near Velliyanai on Saturday.
The incident took place on a private railway line owned and operated by Chettinad Cement between Veerarakkiyam and Palayam. A train carrying goods between the factory’s plants rammed into a bus carrying 25 students from a college located in Karudayampalayam. Of the 25 students, 23 sustained injuries, police said. Part of the bus sustained significant damage in the impact.
