
Ravinder Singh, a 25-year-old defender for Namdhari FC in the Indian Football League (IFL), died after collapsing from chest pains during a local football tournament in Bachhauri village of Nawanshahr district in Punjab. Singh was taken to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on Wednesday. His passing prompted tributes from the football community and the IFL declared a minute’s silence for all upcoming matches to honor his memory.

The funeral was held in Singh’s hometown, with his brother Bhupinder Singh performing the last rites. The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of family members, friends and football colleagues who reflected on the impact of Singh’s life on his community and peers.

Namdhari FC paid tribute to their late defender by sharing an emotional video message and offering a prayer in his memory.
Several other football clubs, including Minerva Punjab, Gokulam Kerala and Bengaluru FC, expressed their condolences on social media platforms. He trained at the Minerva Punjab Academy during his formative years.

Ravinder Singh was a key pillar in Namdhari FC’s defense and played an important role for the club that became a symbol of Punjab’s football revival in the Indian Football League. His journey to the professional scene was anything but glamorous as he steadily rose through the local youth teams through sheer hard work and determination.
Off the field, Ravinder balanced football with his studies and completed his second year bachelor’s degree at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College in Garhshankar. Juggling the demands of the I-League alongside college wasn’t easy, but he managed it as he inspired many young footballers in Ludhiana. Ravinder, who wore the No.31 jersey, was known for his powerful hitting and sharp positioning, which helped Namdhari FC maintain a solid defensive unit against some of the best teams in Indian football.
