In a major political development following the government change and political realignment in Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay are set to hold a post-poll consultative meeting with the party’s alliance partners on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

The meeting is scheduled for 4:00 pm at a private hotel in Kovalam, a suburb of Chennai.

On behalf of TVK, party general secretary and minister for rural development and water resources N. Anand and general secretary (election campaign management) and minister for public works and sports development Aadhav Arjuna met the representatives of the alliance partners to invite them for talks.

They met Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thole. Thirumavalavan, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president KM Kader Mohideen, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko and Congress and Left party leaders over the past three days and handed them invitation letters from Mr. Vijay for the meeting.

In the letter, Mr. Vijay said he felt it his duty to thank them for their support in forming the government and expressed his willingness to hold a consultative meeting with them. Invitations were extended to representatives of state offices, MPs and MLAs of alliance partners to attend the meeting.

The meeting called by TVK assumes significance against the backdrop of the collapse of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led secular progressive alliance following the 2026 assembly poll debacle. The meeting is widely seen as an aid by TVK to mobilize support from alliance partners for the by-elections likely to be held later this year as seven assembly seats remain vacant following the resignation of members, including six from the AIADMK.

CPI(M), CPI not to participate

The CPI(M) and the CPI said they would not attend the meeting.

The left-wing parties, which support the TVK-led government from the outside, do not like to give the impression that they are part of the alliance.

“The event is for TVK allies. Since we are supporting the government from outside, we have decided not to participate in it. Left parties are not part of any alliance now, but our support to the government will continue,” said CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian.
