A team of doctors from Lake View Hospital in Belagavi performed a life-saving surgery on a 75-year-old patient who was suffering from a rare medical condition.
The patient was admitted with severe abdominal pain, vomiting and signs of infection.
After a detailed examination, doctors diagnosed him with gastric volvulus, a rare condition in which the stomach twists abnormally and cuts off the blood supply.
As a result of delayed presentation, part of the stomach was damaged and perforated, leading to septicemia.
The medical team immediately performed emergency surgery to correct the problem. The damaged part of the stomach was removed in a procedure known as a proximal gastrectomy.
The surgery was performed by a team led by Sreeshail Hanagandi and Pradeep G. Vagarali with anesthesia support from Sanjeev Kumar Durdi.
After the procedure, the patient was carefully monitored and treated with antibiotics and supportive care. Doctors said the patient responded well to treatment and was gradually recovering. He was later released in stable condition.
The procedure was done at an affordable cost due to the poor financial situation of the patient, the report said.
