A 43-year-old woman working as a cook in an institution under the jurisdiction of Kasaragod town police station has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student of class 8.
The accused was taken into custody after a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO). Police said the abuse allegedly took place repeatedly since September last year.
According to the complaint, the girl disclosed the alleged molestation to her mother upon returning home during a vacation. Her mother subsequently informed the relevant authorities and officials of the Childline India Foundation, after which the child was counselled. Details of the alleged abuse came to light during a counseling session.
Acting on the information of the Childline workers, the police registered a POCSO case and arrested the accused. A detailed investigation is underway.
