THINK Gas, which is implementing the city gas project in Thiruvananthapuram, has so far provided gas connections to 26,500 households as well as 25 commercial establishments in the capital, where it has laid a 650-km gas pipeline as part of the project, according to the agency. Work is also continuing to set up storage facilities and distribution infrastructure in neighboring Kollam where a new LCNG (Liquid to Compressed Natural Gas) plant is to be set up at Chavara to meet the demand for natural gas.
The municipal gas network will be extended in Mangalapuram and Vilapil areas of Thiruvananthapuram and Panmana panchayat in Kollam district, according to the agency. The agency will also install advanced smart meters in the natural gas pipeline network for accurate billing and real-time usage and prepaid billing instead of mechanical meters.
There are also plans to establish new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and additional natural gas (PNG) connections. An additional 6,000 PNG connections are planned in Thiruvananthapuram district by 2026. Five CNG stations are planned in Thiruvananthapuram and 2 stations in Kollam. A total of 30,000 household connections and 27 commercial connections have been provided in Alappuzha so far, with a total length of 900 km of pipelines laid under the project.
In Alappuzha, the agency will expand its network to more areas of Alappuzha city and Aryad Panchayat along with Mararikulam, providing an additional 6,000 PNG connections by 2026, besides introducing advanced smart meters instead of mechanical meters. Three CNG stations are also planned in Alappuzha this year, the agency said.
