Dubai Airport, which temporarily suspended operations on Saturday after an aircraft intercepted an object near the airport, has “partially” resumed operations, Dubai International Airport said, while urging fliers not to travel to the airport unless instructed to do so by the airline.
“We have partially resumed operations from today, March 7, with some flights operating from Dubai International Airport (DXB) Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC). We urge you not to head to the airport until your airline has contacted you with flight confirmation as flight schedules may continue to change,” Dubai International Airport said on X.
Explosions were heard in Dubai, forcing authorities to close one of the world’s busiest airports. Some flights were later resumed, including Emirates.
“Passengers with confirmed bookings on this afternoon’s flights, including those transiting through Dubai with connecting flights in operation, may continue to the airport,” Emirates. wrote on X.
The government said it had activated air defenses. Meanwhile, passengers waiting for flights from Dubai were escorted into train tunnels at the sprawling airport after the alert sounded.
A witness also told AFP that an explosion was heard above the airport, followed by a plume of smoke in the air. Several residents also told The Associated Press that explosions were heard around town.
Four employees were injured and a lobby at Dubai Airport was damaged last Saturday after a war broke out following US-Israeli strikes against Iran. Iranian strikes also hit the Palm Jumeirah luxury development and the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel, while drone debris sparked a fire at the US consulate in Dubai on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, explosions sent plumes of dark smoke into the skies over the Iranian capital early Saturday morning. Tehran responded by firing missiles at Israel as the United States warned of an upcoming bombing campaign that officials said would be the most intense yet in the week-long conflict.
Iran’s president apologizes for attacks on neighboring countries
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly apologized for the attacks on neighboring countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
Pezeshkian said neighboring countries would no longer be targeted unless attacks were launched from them amid the ongoing conflict with Israel and the US.
“The Interim Leadership Council agreed yesterday that no more attacks will be made on neighboring countries and no more missiles will be fired unless the attack on Iran comes from those countries,” Pezeshkian said, according to several reports.
