The tahsildar and joint sub-registrar of Pedda Vangara mandal in Mahabubabad district along with his private car driver were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 on Friday.
Accused officer Veeraganti Mahendar was jailed by ACB Warangal Range around 4.22 pm after he demanded bribe from the complainant for processing land registration related to inheritance of ancestral agricultural property. The bribe was allegedly received through his private car driver, identified as Thuppani Goutham. It was alleged that the money was demanded to facilitate the registration of agricultural land in favor of the applicant’s husband.
The tainted amount was recovered from Goutham, after which both the Tahsildar and his driver were arrested and produced before the Special Court for SPE and ACB cases in Warangal. The investigation is ongoing and the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
Meanwhile, the ACB urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by civil servants on its toll-free number 1064 or through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) and ensure that the identity of the complainant remains confidential.
