
Karnataka, home to technology hub Bengaluru, will ban the use of social media by persons below the age of 16, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday. The state became the first in India to do so.
Siddaramaiah made the announcement while presenting the State Budget 2026-27 at the Vidhana Soudha on Friday, March 6.
In his Budget speech, he said: “To prevent the adverse effects of the growing use of mobile devices on children, the use of social media will be banned for children under the age of 16.
