Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday (March 2, 2026) inaugurated an old age home set up by Arulmigu Devi Baliamman and Ilankaliamman Temple at Kolathur in Chennai at a cost of ₹ 11.88 crore.
The home covers 25,500 m2 and could accommodate 75 senior citizens. Various equipment, facilities for providing physiotherapy, first aid, among others, are available in this house. “TVS Motors is providing funds to maintain a house that would be suitable for people above 60 years of age whose families could not afford their maintenance,” an official statement said.
In 2021, the Tamil Nadu government announced to build a home for the elderly with accommodation and catering facilities at three temples in Chennai, Tirunelveli and Palani, keeping in mind the needy conditions of the elderly and providing them with better living conditions in their old age. The Chief Minister in May 2025 unveiled the foundation for the construction of these houses at Kolathur, Palani and Palayamkottai.
In another event on Tuesday (March 3, 2026), CM Stalin inaugurated the ‘Mudhalvar Padaippagam’ with a modern library built by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at Ashok Nagar at a cost of ₹ 12.74 crore.
CM Stalin also virtually inaugurated nine Mudhalvar Padaippagams constructed by CMDA at a total cost of ₹16.87 crore. Besides, he inaugurated sports infrastructure set up by Greater Chennai Corporation and school buildings at a total cost of ₹10.95 crore.
