The two-day National Conference Home Science-2026 began on Thursday at the Senate Bhavan on the University of Mysore campus here.
The theme of the conference is “Ecological Approaches for Resilient and Transformative Domestic Science: Enhancing Sustainability through Science and Community Engagement.”
The event was jointly organized by the departments of food science and nutrition of both universities.
Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt inaugurated the conference in the presence of Vice Chancellor NK Lokanath, KSOU VC Sharanappa V. Hals, Former Director of CFTRI Dr. V. Prakash, Registrar MK Savita and others.
Prof. In his speech, NK Lokanath said that sustainability is no longer a choice – it is a responsibility. Resilience is no longer an abstract concept – it is a necessity. And transformation is no longer a distant goal – it must be an ongoing process within our institutions, our communities and our daily lives. Domestic science occupies a significant and powerful space in this transformation. It connects science and society. It connects laboratory research with lived reality, he said.
“As a university, it is our role to ensure that scientific progress moves forward with wisdom and ethical awareness. Over the next two days, this conference will host plenary sessions, panel discussions and technical presentations that reflect the depth and diversity of current Home Science research,” he added.
On this occasion, the logo of the International Confederation and Academy for Humanities, Family and Community Scientists was presented. “This emerging international platform seeks to bring together scientists, institutions and professionals across various fields of domestic science, to promote global collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement,” said Prof. Lokanath.
The VC said that in an increasingly interconnected world, such initiatives are necessary to enhance academic exchange, foster cross-cultural research partnerships and collectively address common challenges related to human development, family well-being and sustainable communities. “I am confident that this confederation will serve as a meaningful bridge connecting institutions across nations in pursuit of knowledge and social transformation.”
Dr. Prakash who was the guest of honor delivered the keynote address.
