The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched a pilot project to test the effectiveness of QR code-based door-to-door waste collection at Nalanda Nagar in Hyderguda, under Attapur circle in Rajendranagar zone.
Under the system, each individual household/apartment complex will be allotted a QR code for Swachh Auto Tipper drivers/owners to scan and register waste collection every day. In this way, it will be possible to find out the number of households in each ward that put garbage in SAT vehicles, officials informed.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said the door-to-door waste collection system based on QR code would increase accountability and ensure daily waste collection from every household.
On Tuesday morning, the commissioner inspected the implementation of the pilot project accompanied by area commissioner Anurag Jayanti, additional sanitation commissioner Ravi Kiran and others.
The Commissioner noted that Swachh Auto workers are playing a key role in making Greater Hyderabad a clean city. He directed the Deputy Commissioners and officials of the Solid Waste Management Department, including the DEE and AE, to ensure that the waste collection is done smoothly every day within the limits of the GHMC.
Officials have been instructed to identify households that have failed to hand over waste to Swachh Auto workers and motivate residents to participate in the scheme. Mr. Karnan warned that negligence in attendance, performance of sanitation workers and lapses in supervision will not be tolerated.
He also directed officials to respond quickly to complaints related to hygiene issues. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of public participation and called for awareness and information programs to strengthen community involvement in cleanliness initiatives.
Officials said if the pilot project yields positive results, plans will be made to implement the QR code-based waste collection system across the GHMC limits.
