BCCI insults Suryakumar Yadav for sharing T20 World Cup 2024 photos: Fans hit back, claim ‘jealousy’ | Today’s news
Little did the BCCI know that it would receive flak for sharing photos of Team India’s famous victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. But that’s exactly what happened when the board shared the winning pictures from the historic moment.
“On this day 2 years ago, the victory is forever etched in our memories as the Rohit Sharma-led team brought home the second T20 World Cup title for Team India,” the BCCI wrote while sharing the images.

The photos included the iconic moment when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma posed for the camera together shortly after winning the trophy. They held the trophy while the tricolor was wrapped around them. It was the last day when the legendary Ro-Ko duo played T20 cricket for India.
Social media didn’t take it lightly, partly because Team India suffered a 2-0 whitewash against Ireland last night. Remember the Men in Blue are defending world champions who also lifted the trophy this year.
“Firstly a big slap from all the Indian fans to the poor choice to make Shreyas Iyer the captain. What did Suryakumar Yadav miss to be removed from the captaincy? What a poor choice,” wrote an Indian cricket fan.
Another fan commented, “Stop being nostalgic and take action against Joker Gautam Gambhir and Agarkar (for running Mumbai lobby). Shegde instead of Suryavanshi made absolutely no sense… Mumbai lobby at work.”
“It was good because Virat and Rohit knew how to play a slow wicket rather than these flat track bullies. 2024 will always be memorable,” wrote another fan.

“Make Rohit the ODI captain once again; he’ll win you the 2027 World Cup,” suggested another fan.
One fan wrote: “Back-to-back defeats against Ireland. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi spent the entire series on the bench without a single opportunity. If you don’t give a promising youngster a chance, why pick him? The fans deserve better planning and a clear vision. Shame on BCCI.”
“Literally, the last time I felt ecstatic with this team,” came from another user.
“On this day we celebrate Ireland’s victory over the BCCI cricket team. Driven by egos and megalomaniacs, they denied Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a chance to play. Karma paid back. BCCI team lost the series!” came the sarcastic reply.
BCCI Snubs SKY
One social media user pointed out that BCCI had not released Suryakumar Yadav’s photo. For context, SKY has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the India T20 team. Iyer’s first assignment was against Ireland. His next challenge is the T20 series against England starting on July 1.
“BCCI released T20 World Cup 2024 commemorative photos but not Sky’s photo which was actually the reason we won the World Cup. Someone in BCCI doesn’t like SKY. Now I understand very well. The jealousy doesn’t include the iconic photo but I’m posting it here. Thank you Surya,” the user wrote.
Another user called Surya’s catch the “best moment”. It was Yadav’s spectacular catch at Long-Off that sealed the deal for India.
South Africa needed just 16 runs off the last 6 balls. David Miller struck full in the very first delivery of the 20th over bowled by Hardik Pandya.
“6” was written all over the ball. However, Suryakumar Yadav ran up, timed the jump perfectly and took the catch over the boundary rope.

India lifted the T20 World Cup on 29 June 2024 after 17 years. Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure is over. Virat and Rohit retired; as well as Ravindra Jadeja. Gautam Gambhir became India’s head coach. Surya becomes the new captain of India T20 team. Under his leadership, India won the 2026 T20 World Cup. He was then dropped from the team and was replaced by Shreyas Iyer.
