Formula 1: George Russell wins in Austria, Verstappen and Antonelli join him on the podium

George Russell secured victory in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday after starting from pole position, cutting Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli’s lead to 40 points.

Max Verstappen was just 1.6 seconds back after recovering from a qualifying crash that saw him start fifth at his Red Bull home circuit. Antonelli finished third on the podium, narrowly finishing 0.3 seconds behind after a tense battle for the line.

It was Russell’s second win of the season following his triumph in Australia as Mercedes continued their dominant run with seven wins in the opening eight rounds.

Antonelli now leads the championship on 171 points, followed by Russell on 131, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton is third on 125 points after finishing fifth after an intense on-track battle with Verstappen.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
