Two convictions for assaulting a police officer

A Shivamogga court on Friday convicted two people facing charges of assaulting a police official on duty and sentenced them to two years in jail, besides imposing a sentence on them.

Manu Kumar, 23, and Madhu Kumar, 24, brothers from Mandaghatta in Shivamogga taluk, assaulted police sub-inspector Naveen Mathpathi and his staff of Kumsi police station when they went to the house of the accused to seize ganja in 2020. from fulfilling their duties.

Sanjeev Kumar, the then Dy. The SP of Shivamogga conducted an investigation and filed a charge sheet. The Third Additional District and Regional Judge heard the case, convicted the accused and sentenced them to two years of imprisonment. They were also fined ₹17,500 each. Further, the court ordered a compensation of ₹20,000 for the complainant and another ₹10,000 for the witness in the case.
