
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (Feb 4th) that he had completed an “excellent” and “thorough” telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which he discussed a wide range of bilateral and global issues.
“It was a long and thorough call where many important topics were discussed, including trade, the military, my trip to China in April (which I am very much looking forward to!), Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the current situation with Iran…” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trade and agriculture on the agenda
During the call, Trump highlighted several trade-related discussions, including energy and agriculture:
“…China’s purchase of oil and natural gas from the United States, China’s consideration of other agricultural purchases including increasing soybeans to 20 million tons for the current season (They have committed to 25 million tons for next season!)…”
He emphasized that both countries are focused on strengthening economic ties and ensuring continued trade cooperation.
Military and geopolitical issues are discussed
Trump said he also spoke with Xi about key geopolitical issues:
“…including trade, the military… Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the current situation with Iran…”
He noted the importance of maintaining strong and positive relations with China amid global tensions.
Strong personal ties emphasized
Trump emphasized the personal relationship he shares with President Xi Jinping, calling him the cornerstone of US-China relations:
“The relationship with China and my personal relationship with President Xi Jinping is extremely good and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way.”
He expressed optimism about achieving positive results during his tenure:
“I believe that during the next three years of my presidency, many positive results will be achieved regarding President Xi and the People’s Republic of China!”
