A shocking child abuse incident involving a 10-month-old baby has recently come to light. The infant, covered in needle marks, had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Spinal surgeon Dr Sui Wenyuan documented the harrowing case through a video posted online, the South China Morning Post reported.
Describing the severity of the wounds the child allegedly suffered at the hands of his abusive mother, the doctor said the boy was admitted to the People’s Hospital of Southwest China, located in Yunnan Province, on December 16, 2026. The child arrived at the hospital’s pediatric ward with multiple stab wounds and dark scabs on the boy’s head and feet.
When the child was admitted, he was suffering from fever and convulsions, noted a doctor employed at the Spine Center of Xinhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. When recounting the events of the nerve-wracking case he encountered during a pediatric consultation, Sui Wenyuan revealed that the child appeared to have been stabbed 500 to 600 times.
According to the doctor, the boy’s mother used needles as a form of punishment for bad behavior. The folk medicine suggested that it was associated with superstitious belief, involving the gruesome practice of drawing blood whenever a child developed a cold or fever.
The abuse continued over time, but the latest misfortune forced the mother to seek medical help. run to the hospital. In the most terrifying recent incident, Dao inserted a needle, usually used to sew shoe soles, into a child’s neck.
The tip of the needle broke inside the body and lodged in the cervical spine. Removal of the rusty shard required surgery. “We completed all the necessary tests and successfully performed the surgery on the same day as the consultation,” the publication quoted the doctor as saying.
Sui Wenyuan indicated that the child’s condition had improved after the operation, she said, “The child had a high fever, possibly due to rust on the needle. However, three to four days after the operation, his temperature dropped and he was transferred from intensive care.”
The report cited a lack of education and scientific knowledge for the ominous behavior of the mother, who showed signs of emotional distress.
A joint investigation into the child abuse incident was conducted. An official statement was released on January 21 by an investigative team made up of the Public Safety Bureau, the Health Commission, the Civil Affairs Department and the Women’s Federation. It was confirmed that the needle injury on the boy’s body was caused by his mother. According to the statement, the boy’s mother tried to treat the child herself using the traditional folk method of “needling”.
