
As many as 270 motorists caught driving under the influence during the New Year celebrations have been sent to jail after being convicted by a court in Hyderabad, the city’s traffic police said on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Hyderabad Traffic Police has conducted special anti-drink driving enforcement drives across the city from 24th December to 31st December 2025 in connection with New Year 2026 celebrations to ensure road safety and prevent accidents.
Officials said the courts have so far convicted 270 offenders who have been jailed and sent to prison.
In addition to prison conditions, letters are sent to the relevant departments and educational institutions of the offenders asking them to take appropriate action against those who work or study there.
Traffic police stressed that drink-driving is a serious offense that poses a serious threat to public safety and warned that such violations would be dealt with severely. Officials said that similar special enforcement drives will continue to save lives and maintain order on the roads.
