TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud dismissed as “laughable” allegations of political vendetta and character assassination by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and claimed that the investigation into the wiretapping case was based on concrete evidence.
In an informal conversation with the media, Mr. Goud said that if the Congress government was intent on political vendetta, action would be taken immediately after assuming power. Instead, he said, due process was followed.
He remarked that Mr. Rama Rao’s statement on the matter sounded like “the devil preaching scriptures” and the BRS MLA sounded frustrated as the truth slowly emerged. Wiretapping is a serious violation of personal liberty, he said, adding that listening in on conversations between private individuals is a violation of personal liberty.
Mr. Goud said it was ironic that Mr. Rama Rao was talking about phone tapping when even his own sister K. Kavitha had alleged that her phone and that of her husband were also tapped. According to him, there is no answer to her accusation yet.
Mr. Goud said that phone tapping is only for elements threatening national security, claimed that his own phone was tapped on the pretext of Naxal links, and questioned the necessity of tapping the phones of film personalities. He also claimed that 547 phones were tapped during the BRS regime in just three months, adding that even his close friend was monitored.
Commenting on the episode, Kavitha claimed that the internal strife in the KCR family stemmed from disagreements over distribution of corrupt money. He thanked Kavith for speaking the truth, albeit belatedly.
