The Election Commission (EC) has felicitated senior officers and constituencies in Bihar under the ‘2025 Best Constituency Awards, Special Awards and Media Awards’ for election management and voter awareness in the state.
The awards will be presented to the officials on National Voters’ Day, which has been celebrated annually on January 25 since 2011. Senior officials and selected districts will be honored in various categories.
Senior officers from Bihar who have been selected for the award in the ‘special awards category’ include state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiyal (IAS), then Additional Director General (ADG) Headquarters and State Police Nodal Kundan Krishnan (IPS, who is now promoted as DG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Election Economics (DIG) Singh Dhillon (IPS) for their effective leadership and coordination.
Along with these awardees, five districts of the state including East Champaran, Purnea, Patna, Samastipur and Madhubani were selected for the ‘Best Constituency Awards’ category. Precinct Election Officers in these five precincts will be honored for successfully conducting the election process smoothly, demonstrating innovation and efforts to increase voter participation.
For a smooth voting process
On the same occasion, the media team of the CEO’s office was selected for the National Voter’s Day 2026 – Best Social Media Team Award. The then Social Media Nodal Officer of the state Kapil Sharma was nominated to receive this award. During the Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign, the Bihar social media team effectively provided accurate, authentic and timely information to voters and all stakeholders associated with the election process.
Misleading and false information circulating on social media platforms was systematically, swiftly and effectively combated during this period. During the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, voter awareness activities were carried out in a planned manner, ensuring active participation of all contributors and stakeholders, making the electoral process more transparent, credible and voter-centric.
The honor given to the EC is seen as recognition at the national level for Bihar’s robust election management and innovation-based communication strategy.
National Voter’s Day is celebrated every year on January 25 to mark the establishment of the Electoral Commission, which was established on this day in 1950. The main purpose of the celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximize voter registration, especially new voters, in addition to encouraging more young voters to participate in the political process.
