IPL 2026 | Dewald Brevis recalls MS Dhoni’s four-year-old tip: ‘That was the only advice’
Dewald Brevis with MS Dhoni (Dewald Brevis Instagram) NEW DELHI: South African batsman Dewald Brevis has revealed how a simple piece of advice from MS Dhoni has stuck with him since his very first IPL season in 2022. Brevis, who joined Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 as a substitute, said Dhoni taught him the difference between confidence and overconfidence, something he still follows today.“One of the best pieces of advice I got from MS (Dhoni) was my first year in the IPL and I wasn’t in Chennai yet, but he told me ‘you have two sides, you get overconfidence and self-belief and be more on the confidence side.’ And that was the only piece of advice from him that really stuck with me,” Brevis told news agency ANI.Brevis also praised Dhoni’s calm nature and humility and said he learned a lot by closely watching the CSK legend during training sessions and team interactions.“Whenever I’ve been around him and just seen how he does his thing and how he lives, the person he is is just being himself,” Brevis said, adding that Dhoni’s experience and knowledge make him someone every young player looks up to.Dhoni has yet to play for CSK in IPL 2026 due to a calf injury, but Brevis admitted that the team still benefits from his presence in the squad. “And it’s wonderful to have him… I wish he could play, as I think a lot of people wish he could,” he added.Brevis called joining CSK as a substitute player one of the best decisions of his career. He said the love from the fans and the franchise made his journey special.“It was the best decision ever to come as an understudy to Chennai,” Brevis said, adding that he has improved both as a player and a person during his time with the franchise.
