Police with accused Yada Vinod Kumar and Dundigala Srinivas Sagar.
Two persons, including a property owner and a contractor, have been arrested after a wall collapsed on two men in Jiyaguda, killing a 36-year-old carpenter and injuring another. The accused have been identified as Yada Vinod Kumar, the owner of the property where the construction work was going on, and Dundigala Srinivas Sagar, the contractor overseeing the project. Both were arrested on Wednesday and are being arraigned. Deceased Angad, a carpenter resident of Bharath Nagar, Jiyaguda, succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident. Another man, Dilip Paswan, sustained minor injuries.
According to the police, the incident was reported on June 22 at 8 pm in New Ganga Nagar, Jiyaguda. Angad and Dilip were returning home when an old wall adjacent to a construction site suddenly collapsed on them. Rohit Paswan, brother of the deceased, lodged a complaint following which the Kulsumpura police registered a case and started an investigation.
During the investigation, the investigators found that excavation work was carried out at the construction site without obtaining permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and without providing security measures, including barricades, fencing, warning boards and public safety measures.
Investigators also found that despite the accused noticing cracks in the adjacent wall during the excavation work, he failed to take precautionary measures, which led to the death.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, police arrested both the property owner and the contractor. Further investigation is underway.
