Man kills 21-year-old on local train for leaving door open amid Mumbai rains; the video shows that no one is facing the accused | Today’s news

A 21-year-old man in Mumbai, Maharashtra, was murdered after a fight broke out over whether the doors of a Mumbai local train should be left open amid monsoon rains. According to PTI, a search has been launched for the attacker.

Mayank Lohar was stabbed to death on Tuesday, which also marked the onset of the southwest monsoon in Mumbai – between Andheri and Borivali railway stations in the city’s western suburbs.

A confrontation took place between Lohar and another commuter when the Churchgate–Nallasopara local express entered Andheri station at 10.42 pm, according to the Western Railway Authority,

The argument escalated when one of them wanted the door to remain open while the other objected citing the rain.

The war of words escalated to such an extent that the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon, stabbed Lohar in the stomach and jumped off the train at Borivali station before it stopped.

Lohar, who sustained severe injuries, was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

A disturbing video captures the aftermath of the attack

A chilling video shot inside the train showed the black-clad accused calmly walking away with a knife after allegedly attacking the victim. Blood could be seen smeared across the metal seats after the attack.

Passengers were seen walking away from the scene when the accused, with his shirt unbuttoned to his waist, turned back to look at the victim lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the train. The video showed that no one attempted to confront or approach the suspect.

Railroad officials detail the emergency response

Railway officials said the train reached Borivali station at 11.04 pm and Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the coach within minutes. Medical personnel along with stretchers and porters were immediately mobilized to assist the injured passenger.

The victim, identified as Lohar, was taken to a medical emergency at Borivali station at 11:22 p.m., where he was examined by a doctor. Based on medical advice, the railway authorities arranged for him to be taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali by ambulance at 11.42 pm. He was accompanied by GRP and RPF personnel during the journey.

Railway authorities have also secured CCTV footage and collected other evidence from the crime scene before handing it over to the investigating agencies.

Senior railway officials, including Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai Central) and Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, visited Borivali station around 1:00 am to review the incident and assess the response measures.
