Up-and-comer Suryansh Shedge replaces Nitish Reddy for Ireland, England T20I series

Mumbai’s 23-year-old all-rounder Suryanash Shedge has replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in the 15-man T20I squad for India’s series against Ireland and England. In the absence of Hardik Pandya and Nitish ruled out due to injury, Shedge gets his first India call-up. He recently impressed India A with skilful performances with bat and ball in the tri-series in Dambulla.

Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on 20 June. After a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI medical team recommended a period of rehabilitation and ruled him out of both the T20I series, the Indian Cricket Board said.

Suryansh earned the call-up after a string of impressive performances for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. A middle-order batsman, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs in five matches and also chipped in with the ball as he bowled 23 overs during the tournament.

He was also one of Mumbai’s standout performers in their 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning campaign, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower-middle order.
