The state cabinet on Monday gave its nod to the latest proposal submitted by the SPSR Nellore district administration to stop the Dagadarthi airport project.
The airport project has been in the news for more than two decades. Of the 1,300 acres required for the project, the district machinery has identified 882 acres of government land, but the remaining 418 acres in Damavaram, an Inam village, is embroiled in legal trouble.
The farmers, who were perpetual tenants of the alleged lands, moved the court and even got a stay in 2017. Since then, the authorities have been trying to reconcile.
District Collector Himanshu Shukla, who held several meetings with the stakeholders, arrived at a consensual solution of paying ₹13 lakh per acre for the 418 acres in question.
Mr. Shukla formally thanked Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, Ministers Ponguru Narayan and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and MLC Beeda Ravichandra for playing a key role in pushing the motion.
