Bengaluru airport scam? Foreigners board with fake boarding pass to gain access to phone, warns traveler | Today’s news
While there is no dearth of scams in cities, a new scam scheme has reportedly emerged in Bengaluru. According to a viral Instagram video, a traveler claimed two men tried to access his phone, one under the pretense of booking a train ticket and the other with a fake boarding pass. The video shocked internet users.
New scam at Bengaluru airport
The video was posted by an Instagram user identified as @ranvijayy_vlogs who said the scammers fled after being caught. He added that he even confronted one of them on camera saying, “Come, come to the police, let’s talk. Dekho kaise bhaag raha hai. Yeh sab scammers hain, inke jhaanse mein mat aana (Look how he runs away. These people are scammers. Don’t fall for them).”
“Fake train ticket booking”
Narrating the entire incident, the passenger said he was approached by a man asking for help in booking train tickets.
”I just arrived at Bengaluru airport and within an hour I was met by two people and both are fraudsters. This means that the person you just saw running like this asked me to help him book train tickets from my phone. As said, I don’t need money, I just need to book train tickets. “So I’m at Bengaluru airport right now and within an hour I’ve already run into two people and both of them were scammers. One of them, the one you just saw running away, approached me and asked if I’d help him book train tickets using my phone. He said he didn’t need any money, just help booking tickets. When I looked at him, I immediately felt something was wrong and I knew right away that something was wrong with him.”
Fake boarding pass
The young man continued, adding that the other person, on the other hand, was looking for help paying for the ticket by showing a fake boarding pass.
“Okay, then later I met another guy, a guy. He had a boarding pass with a scanner in his hand. Then he said I’m not paying, you help me pay. I’ll transfer the money to you later. Then in the car I realized that he’s also a fraud. I also scolded him and he also ran away from the vehicle.” (“Later I ran into another person, a young man. He was holding what looked like a boarding pass with some QR codes on it. He told me he was unable to make the payment and asked if I could help him finish it. He said he would transfer the money back to me afterwards. But I quickly realized he was also a scammer. I scolded him and he also fled the scene.”
“Yeh Bengaluru Airport par hain. Bas apne phone ka access mat dena (This is happening at Bengaluru Airport. Don’t give them access to your phone).”
Netizens react
In response, the user wrote in the comments: “The exact same thing happened to me trying to get hold of my mother.”
“Every big city airport has the same story: if you’re not aware, you’ll be cheated at every point,” added another.
Someone else also said “I used to travel to Bangalore every month but never had an incident like this…”
