Vaibhav Sooryavanshi makes script history, breaks 20-year-old record with fastest fifty in List A cricket

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Image credit: BCCI) Indian teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in the record books by registering the fastest fifty in the history of List A cricket during the Tri-Nation Series final between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.The 15-year-old opener unleashed a breathtaking onslaught on the Sri Lankan bowlers after Sri Lanka A opted to field first and raced to his half-century in just 11 deliveries. With this, Sooryavanshi broke the previous world record for a 12-ball fifty, which was set by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005.The historic moment came when Sooryavanshi launched the left arm dulaj Samudith straight down the ground for his fifth six of the innings to score a remarkable fifty and rewrite the List A record books.Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stunning innings ended on 94 off just 29 balls. Sooryavanshi looked set for a historic hundred before Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige struck the crucial blow. Trying to clear mid-off, the young opener went wrong on a full delivery and was caught by Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. His sensational knock included 10 fours and 8 sixes, leaving the crowd to applaud as he returned after a remarkable innings that put India A firmly on top.
