The 58th Inter-IIT 2025 Sports Meet began on Sunday at the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT-T) campus in Yerped. The event is organized by IIT Tirupati with support from IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad units.
IIT-T Director KN Satyanarayana joined Olympian and Arjuna award winning weightlifter Sathish Sivalingam and handed over the torch to the player who lit the flame. Sports contingents from all the 23 IITs across the country participated in the march. A band from Veritas Sainik School played patriotic songs that added excitement to the event.
Recalling his days at the IIT-Madras campus as a student, Mr. Satyanarayana explained that such meets not only help students excel in sports but also provide a sense of participation, team spirit, tolerance and leadership.
Hailing India’s growing footprint in international sports, Mr. Sivalingam termed “Khelo India” and the emerging sports policy as having the potential to identify and promote rural talent. “Impressive sports infrastructure will help create a new breed of future sports champions,” he said, adding that such events would help focus emerging fields such as sports management, high-performance sports and allied fields.
Chess, tennis and weightlifting took place on the first day. Dean (Student Affairs) NN Murthy, Sports Officer Iyyappan and students were present.
