India join South Africa tour lessons to turn tables in Women’s T20 World Cup
India bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi said India will look to apply the lessons from their tour of South Africa when the two sides meet in the Women’s World Cup T20 clash at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday.
Earlier this year India suffered a 4–1 series defeatwith Laura Wolvaardt dominating with the bat. India will now look to turn the tables in Manchester. It will also be the first time that the two teams will meet in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Salvi added that the team thought deeply after the loss, identified gray areas and worked together to resolve them.
“The five matches we played in South Africa taught us a lot. When you lose a series, you think deeply and identify the gray areas that need to be improved. As a bowling unit and as a group, including the management, everyone was fully engaged.
“We discussed what went wrong, came to clear conclusions and addressed these issues in camps, training sessions and warm-up games. Everyone now understands the areas we need to improve and is equally motivated to work on them and come back stronger.”
“INDIA WILL MISS SHREYANKA”
WITH Shreyanka Patil eliminated from the rest of the tournament due to the leg injury, India will have to find an alternative to death. However, bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi said that the team prepares its bowlers to operate at different stages of the innings and ensure that they are ready to hit whenever needed. He expressed confidence that the squad has the depth and flexibility to cope with Shreyanka’s absence.
“Above all, it is unfortunate that Shreyanka got injured during the game and was ruled out of the tournament. In preparation, we are training all our bowlers as phase bowlers so we can use them when needed.
Salvi admitted that India will miss the services of Shreyanka Patil, but expressed confidence in leg-spinner Prema Rawat, who has been included in the squad as her replacement.
“We will certainly miss Shreyanka’s services, but Prema is also an exciting talent. She has made the most of her opportunities in the past, performing well in the Australian Series and the Rising Stars Asia Cup.”
We are confident in her potential and from working with her in camps, we see her as a capable all-around pitcher for the team.
India are currently second in Group A with four points and a net rate of +3.975 thanks to wins in both their matches against Pakistan and the Netherlands.
