An inmate at the Poojappura Central Jail was found dead on Friday in a suspected suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Haridas, 58, of Alappuzha. The Alappuzha District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the murder in 2021.
According to official sources, Haridas reported for duty at the jail’s production unit around 7:30 in the morning. He was later discovered by other inmates hanging from a plastic wire inside the compound. While jail officials rushed him to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, he was declared brought dead on arrival.
The prison administration has launched a detailed investigation into the incident. A case of unnatural death was recorded.
