Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed health officials to set up a task force of national-level medical experts to study and prevent the spread of typhoid in the state.
In a review meeting on Tuesday, health officials informed the chief minister that the state has so far reported 1,592 cases and no deaths due to the disease have been confirmed. They told him that Chittoor leads other districts with 420 cases.
Officials also told him that the disease has spread across the country, with AP ranked eighth in terms of cases.
In response, the chief minister directed them to form a task force and intensify awareness programs to stop the spread of the disease. Responding to officials’ statement that the state has reported a decline in dengue and malaria cases this year, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need to reduce the number of seasonal disease cases to zero.
