India’s largest airline operator, reported ANI news agency on Monday, December 5, 2025.
New Delhi (India), Dec 8 (ANI): IndiGo officials on Monday said the Crisis Management Group (CMG), set up on December 4, is meeting daily to monitor the ongoing disruption.
The CMG was established at its first meeting on 4 December and meets daily to closely monitor all matters related to the current situation.
Officials stressed that CMG’s key priorities include restoring 100% operational integrity, ensuring timely information flow, expediting refunds and flight rescheduling, and facilitating passenger baggage returns.
“We continue to work round the clock to bring the network back to full capacity,” IndiGo officials said.
Earlier today, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted a one-off 24-hour deadline to the responsible manager and CEO of IndiGo to submit their response to the show cause notice issued on December 6 due to widespread operational disruptions and non-compliances identified.
According to an official statement, two IndiGo officials asked for more time in a request dated December 7, citing operational constraints associated with the airline’s scale of nationwide operations and several unavoidable factors that contributed to disruptions at multiple airports.
After reviewing the application, the DGCA extended the deadline only till 6 pm on December 8 and made it clear that no further extension would be allowed.
The regulator advised that failure to submit a full and comprehensive response within the extended period will result in the regulator proceeding ex parte on the basis of available records.
The DGCA said it continues to monitor the situation and remains focused on passenger safety, compliance and resumption of normal operations.
IndiGo had earlier confirmed that it had received a Show Cause Notice issued on December 6 after major disruptions affected its flight network across the country. The airline asked for more time to respond. In a letter to the regulator, Isidre Porqueras Orea, IndiGo’s responsible manager and chief operating officer, wrote: “We request your good offices to kindly grant us an extension of time until at least 18:00 tomorrow (i.e. 8/12/2025) or any other extended response time as you deem fit.”
The DGCA issued a notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers after widespread cancellations and delays caused frustration among passengers across India. The regulator said the airline had shown “significant deficiencies in planning, oversight and resource management” which had resulted in serious service disruptions. (OR)
