
Ernakulam district is ready to vote for local body elections with all preparations, District Collector G. Priyanka said here on Saturday (December 6, 2025) and urged all voters to exercise their right to vote.
Voting will be held in 3,021 polling booths spread over 2,220 wards of 111 local bodies in the district, the Collector said, explaining the readiness two days ahead of polling scheduled on December 9 in the first phase of the election.
There are a total of 7,347 candidates in the fray. Of these, 3,917 are women and 3,457 are men. There are 26,67,746 voters in the district — 13,88,544 women, 12,79,170 men and 32 transgender people.

As many as 7,490 voting units and 3,036 control units were operational and stored in vaults. In addition, 1,551 voting units and 685 control units were kept in reserve to meet emergency requirements.
The Collector said that a total of 14,544 staff were deployed in the polling stations. Apart from them, nearly 10,000 employees were selected for other survey related work. 28 centers will be set up to distribute and collect materials for voting and vote counting. Spaces, mostly schools, were designated for this purpose.
As many as 72 polling stations have been identified as “sensitive” based on police reports. Voting in these stations will be transmitted via the Internet. Nearly 1,200 vehicles were prepared for election-related work.
Voting will take place from 07:00 to 18:00 Mock voting will take place in polling stations from 06:00 Public campaigns must be stopped by 18:00 on Sunday (7 December 2025).
3,125 police officers in rural limits
As many as 3,125 policemen will be deployed within Ernakulam rural limits, the police said in a release. An additional 600 special police officers will also be on duty. There are 2,206 polling stations in rural areas. Special patrol teams and plainclothes personnel will also be deployed.
As part of ensuring security measures ahead of the polls, the police conducted track marches in all the five divisions within the rural areas. Assistant Superintendent of Police Hardik Meena and Inspector Anilkumar T. Meppallil led the march in Kalady. Deputy Superintendent of Police TR Rajesh led the march in Aluva.
