Bengaluru and several other coastal areas of Karnataka are bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next three days as Cyclone Ditwah weakens into a depression.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rains in parts of Karnataka as a depression has moved towards the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast.
IMD forecast for Bengaluru
The weather agency said the temperature in Bengaluru dropped due to drop in air pressure.
In a bulletin for Bengaluru Urban, the IMD said, “Generally cloudy skies. Light to moderate showers/thunderstorm likely. Fog likely during early morning at some areas.”
While for Bengaluru Rural, the Met Department predicted, “The sky is generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm likely. Fog likely during early morning hours in some areas.”
The maximum temperature in Bengaluru is likely to be 26°C and the minimum temperature is likely to be 18°C.
Rain in Bengaluru till 5th December
IMD has predicted light to moderate rain at isolated places over coastal and south interior (Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Kodagu) on December 5.
“Dry weather is likely to prevail over the state (Coastal, North Interior and South Interior) on December 6-8,” the weather agency said.
IMD ‘yellow’ warning for rain
The Meteorological Agency has issued a ‘yellow’ warning for the following districts of Karnataka:
Cyclone Ditwah weakens to a depression
The depression, a remnant of cyclonic storm Ditwah, was slowly moving south-southwestward over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The minimum distance of the depression center from the north coast of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry is about 25 km, the IMD said.
“It is very likely to move southwestwards slowly towards north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast and weaken into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 6 hours,” the weather office added.
