United Democratic Front (UDF) alleged serious malpractices by election authorities in identifying sensitive booths in Kannur. Addressing the media at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office here, UDF leaders claimed that several booths that witnessed violence in previous elections have been excluded from the sensitive list this time.
DCC President Martin George said a formal complaint has been submitted to the District Collector in the matter. He claimed that the sensitive booths were completed only on the basis of a police report, which he said covered only about 60% of the vulnerable spots. Since the cost of installing the webcams is collected from the candidates, he said the omission of key booths warrants scrutiny by the State Election Commission.
The UDF leaders reiterated that the front was united in the Kannur Corporation elections and that any rebel candidature would not affect its prospects.
The UDF has also accused Communist Party of India councilor KV Anita of spreading a joint message against KPCC member Rijil Makkuty, who is contesting from Adikadalayai division. Mr. George claimed that she shared an old picture which was once widely used by the BJP against the Congress. He said this raised suspicions of an “LDF-BJP understanding” in the division.
Udf Chairman Pt Mathew, Muslim League District President Abdul Kareem Cheleri, K. Sahadulla and ca ajaer were present.
