Story so far: Newly elected United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala decided to pursue a centrally sponsored educational program — PM-SHRI (Prime Minister’s Schools for Emerging India).

Previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) signed the agreement on October 16 last year after years of ideological opposition. However, she had to reverse her decision when the coalition came together Communist Party of India (CPI) they went on the offensive, claiming that neither the cabinet nor the LDF partners were brought on board before the deal was signed. A letter was subsequently sent to the Union government in November informing it of the state’s decision to suspend the program and form a cabinet sub-committee to review the implementation of PM-SHRI.
