Central prison authorities refute the allegations made by the ex-prisoner

Authorities at the Bengaluru Central Jail have dismissed allegations leveled by a woman identified as Sandhya Nagaraj regarding the conditions and activities in the women’s wing of the jail.

According to an official explanation issued by the jail authorities, Sandhya Nagaraj, who was earlier lodged in the jail as an undertrial, recently made a statement to certain Kannada media alleging irregularities in the women’s section of the facility.

In response to these claims, prison officials conducted a surprise search of all rooms in the women’s wing on 11 June 2026 in the presence of female police officers and staff. The inspection is said to have found no prohibited items and all materials present were said to be in accordance with prison regulations.

The following day, the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (South Zone), Bengaluru, visited the women’s wing and conducted an inquiry with the inmates and staff. Authorities said the investigation found no evidence to support the allegations made by Ms. Nagaraj.

The prison authorities further said that two inmates and three staff have filed complaints that false allegations have been made against them. Based on these complaints, the jail authorities sought legal action through the Parappana Agrahara police station.

Based on the complaints, the cases were registered at the Parappana Agrahara police station under an unknown report for further investigation.

The clarification also dealt with media reports suggesting that the prisoner in the Renukaswamy murder case, Pavithra Gowda, was being given special treatment in the women’s wing of the prison. The authorities categorically denied these claims and said that she was not given any special privileges or facilities.

The statement was issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police and the Senior Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail, who reiterated that the allegations circulated in sections of the media were baseless and unsubstantiated by official investigations.
