The Kerala High Court has reiterated its displeasure with the state government for refusing sanction to the CBI probe against R. Chandrasekharan, former chairman of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC), and PA Ratheesh, former managing director, in the ₹600 crore corruption case involving the import of raw cashews till 20156.
The court made this finding after the government denied permission to investigate the case thrice to the CBI and also argued that it was not a case of contempt of court.
Earlier this month, the court asked whether the government, which is committed to ensuring the rule of law and fighting corruption, was protecting those facing corruption charges in the case by refusing sanction to the CBI probe.
The court was hearing a contempt case filed by Kadamkampally Manoj of Kollam alleging corruption in the importation of raw cashews by the Kerala Cashew Board and the state’s refusal to sanction a CBI probe into the matter. The Supreme Court ordered an investigation into the alleged fraud in 2015, considering its international implications.
The matter was posted for hearing on December 8.
